HomeIntel is a new type of service business that is built on a new pay-for-performance contract being piloted by California utilities. The gains realized through the deployment of technology innovations has been modest and it is now becoming clear that business model innovation will disrupt the home energy efficiency industry. Similar to how a new lease product and financing business model created the residential solar industry (Sunrun started at Stanford in 2006), the new pay-for-performance market will invite innovative business models to solve utilities’ problem of delivering more energy efficiency at lower costs. Home Intel, through its utility contract and partnership with Home Energy Analytics (“HEA”), a leading Smart Meter disaggregation and energy efficiency solution recommendation software engine, will create a scalable, cost-effective energy efficiency service. Basing recommendations on unique home energy profiles and data insights, we provide custom solutions and Energy Coach services to help homeowners make low cost, high ROI changes that will reduce their energy bill. As we provide savings across large portfolios of homes, utilities pay us for the energy savings delivered thus avoiding the customer acquisition cost issues that have hindered this segment.
