Internship Term: 8 weeks
WindBorne Systems designs, builds, and operates a constellation of smart weather balloons targeting the most critical atmospheric data to improve global weather forecasts. The balloons are a low cost and long endurance platform that allow for flexibility in where and when data is collected. WindBorne has launched over 500 balloons around the world, circumnavigating the globe, flying into hurricanes, and collecting critical data for a range of meteorological events.
Our mission is to eliminate weather uncertainty, and in the process help humanity adapt to climate change, be that predicting hurricanes or speeding the adoption of renewables. We are building a future in which the planet is instrumented by thousands of our microballoons, eliminating all gaps in our understanding of the planet and giving people and businesses the information they need to make critical decisions.
Responsibilities
We are looking for someone to assist with R&D projects to improve the capabilities of the platform. In this role you will work directly with the balloon hardware which ranges from PCBs, sensors, 3D printed parts, and the balloon envelope. During this internship you will research, design, and test a new sensor subsystem to improve data collection.
