Terradot is building a globally trusted measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) platform to rapidly accelerate soil carbon removal and storage in developing countries using a combination of AI, Remote-Sensing, and Soil Modeling. 

Globally, soil has the potential to sequester up to 1.85 gigatons of carbon / year and improving soil health has important co-benefits like strengthening global food security. Yet, this potential is not being realized, especially in developing countries. For farmers, our technology incentivizes the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices and amendments that sequester carbon, improve soil health, and enable participation in soil carbon credit markets. For carbon removal buyers, we provide high-integrity removal credits while allowing them to verify and monitor the permanence of removal. 

Terradot was founded by two Stanford Students/Alumni in 2022 with 2+ years of prior research on this specific problem and many of our advisors are Stanford Professors. We have grant funding from the TomKat Center and 776 Foundation (Alexis Ohanian). We are driven by a strong sense of purpose, passion, and responsibility for our planet and people.

AI+Remote Sensing Intern

Responsibilities

  • You will work directly on our Core Measurement Technology, which includes a breadth of AI disciplines from RL to improve soil sampling to Computer Vision on Remotely Sensed Imagery to identify if a sustainable practice is being adopted on the field
  • You will have the opportunity to own our AI Stack and make decisions in addition to doing technical AI work
  • You will work closely with and receive mentorship from the founding team and senior engineers

Required Expertise

  • Students with a background in artificial intelligence are encouraged to apply e.g. taken machine learning courses (CS229/CS230/CS224N/CS231N or equivalent), or equivalent project/internship experience
  • Programming skills in essential languages like Java, Python, and/or C++ and proficiency in Software Engineering
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new AI frameworks and technologies as necessary;
  • Excellent attention to detail and written/verbal communication skills

Preferred skills/Majors

  • Past Experience working with Remote Sensing Data is a plus, but not required (we index a lot more on AI ability for this role) 
  • Past experience working in climate/agriculture is not a requirement, but a passion for climate is a plus! 
  • Past multidisciplinary teamwork (i.e. e.g. working on software in healthcare) is a huge plus, as you will be working with an interdisciplinary team with expertise in AI, Remote Sensing, Carbon Markets, Soil Carbon Modeling, Sustainable Finance 
  • Mamba Mentality: the ability to take initiative, learn whatever is necessary, and go above and beyond

Carbon Project Success Intern

Responsibilities

  • You will work on managing our soil carbon projects and ensuring their success, which will involve everything from working with carbon removal buyers to sell removal credits generated by our projects to identifying and building partnerships to start new projects 
  • You will have the opportunity to take ownership and inform our future strategy! This is a unique opportunity to work at a cutting-edge AI+Climate Startup in a strategy role. Perfect if you are thinking of entrepreneurship in the climate tech space in the future   
  • You will work closely with and receive mentorship from the founding team and senior executives

Software Engineering Intern

Responsibilities

  • You will work directly on our Core Product: a soil carbon measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) platform
  • You will have the opportunity to own the product and make product decisions in addition to doing technical full-stack development   
  • You will work closely with and receive mentorship from the founding team and senior engineers

Who should apply

  • If you have a technical software background, which can be demonstrated for example through coursework, your major, past projects, or internships please apply! 
  • We are firm believers that your passion and slope matters so much more than your starting point, so have no restrictions on class years/number of years of prior experience.

Required Expertise

  • Programming skills in essential languages like Java, Python, and/or C++;
  • At least CS107 or equivalent project experience;
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new programming languages, methodologies, and frameworks as necessary;
  • Understanding of software implementation process;
  • Previous experience working on a digital product (website, consumer app, etc.);
  • Excellent attention to detail and written/verbal communication skills

Preferred skills/Majors

  • Students from any discipline are welcome to apply, but some familiarity with algorithms, data structures, and object-oriented programming is required.
