Terra AI is deploying state-of-the-art AI to improve the development of critical mineral and clean energy resources. Terra’s generative AI resource modeling system integrates a wide range of geophysical and geological data to produce statistically rich models of the Earth’s subsurface. These models help decision makers better understand project risks and opportunities throughout the development lifecycle. Terra’s intelligent decision support systems design exploration and development plans that are faster, safer, and more performant than plans developed by human experts alone. Terra is partnering with leading mineral and energy companies to better guide exploration and develop critical resources.
About the Role
As an intern, you will participate in design, development, verification, troubleshooting and delivery of a series of features of Terra’s AI geoscience platform. You will also play a key role in identifying issues and driving investigation and solutions to resolve them. We have a hybrid work culture (3 days / week) in our Redwood City office space.
The internship duties differ depending on the project, but some potential areas of focus and are:
- Development of ML models for the generation of geological hypotheses or the acceleration of physical simulations.
- Development of historical benchmarks for testing and validation of AI-accelerated exploration campaigns.
- Data ingestion, pipelines, storage and processing, visualization - develop, test & improve infrastructure to support our ML pipelines and web application.
- Web application development (frontend + backend) - develop, test, deploy features for our enterprise software product across the software stack.

Required expertise
- Experience with high-level programming languages (e.g. Python, Matlab, Julia)

- Highly developed analytical and organizational skills
Preferred skills/Majors:
- Majoring in a relevant technical discipline including computer science, physical sciences, engineering (any), geology/earth science, and mathematics.
- Past internship experience as software or ML engineer is a major plus
