SOURCE Climate Solutions transforms typical buildings into smart and efficient buildings in support of an equitable and decarbonized energy system by 2050.

SOURCE is an early-stage Stanford Climate Venture focused on rapidly deploying clean energy, energy efficiency, and demand response in the built environment. Through our digital platform, we are working to enable the world to meet science-based climate targets by streamlining the adoption of distributed energy resources like rooftop solar, battery storage, EV charging infrastructure, heat pumps, and smart thermostats.

Today, for building owners, implementing quality energy projects is bureaucratic and burdensome. We provide building owners and operators with a web-based retrofit analytics tool to identify cost-effective energy retrofit packages and then match them with verified vendors. Through our AI-driven marketplace, we provide building owners with access to the quality energy projects hassle-free.

SOURCE has been a part of Stanford Climate Ventures, was selected for the U.S. Department of Energy’s IMPEL program, and was a semi-finalist in the MIT Clean Energy Prize. Our four-person team is passionate about transforming the energy services customer experience. We have a strong track record developing distributed energy resource programs at the U.S. Department of Energy, Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, Stanford, ExxonMobil, and the World Resources Institute. Now, we are building our first version platform and are looking for new team members within our product development and ecosystem engagement teams.

Since we’re an early-stage clean tech startup, you can expect to work across a range of roles where your thought leadership, versatility, and analytical capability will be relied on.

Responsibilities

SOURCE is seeking a Product Manager & Software Engineer to intern with the founding team to develop the SOURCE Engine – which is the core product and data infrastructure delivery services to all aspects of the SOURCE platform. In this role, you will design and develop mission-critical services and applications that require high availability, concurrency, multi-tenancy, and high scalability for a large global user base.

Work closely with Product Management, Engineering and DevOps to build features, resolve issues, and perform testing related to customer-facing services and applications in a fast-paced and collaborative agile team while owning your solution from development to production. Design, write, test, and document applications while identifying solutions to complex problems. Define optimal system performance at scale and at different layers. Implement continuous integration, regression and deployment, while maintaining the existing system and codebase. Design and build scalable, high-availability mission-critical systems and APIs. Ensure feature quality through extensive testing (unit, integration, functional, performance and regression) with a focus towards automation.

Who should apply

Those who are passionate about building a software platform to accelerate the deployment of cost effective climate solutions. Excellent communication skills for conveying technical material to both scientists and non-scientists in both written and oral presentations. Self-disciplined work ethic and eagerness to tackle challenging research problems. Strong desire to work in a intellectually honest team environment.

Knowledge of AWS, especially relational databases, RDS, Lambda, IAM, is a plus. Hands-on skills and experience developing impactful software applications. Apply agile software techniques to manage delivery timelines and stakeholders. Preferred knowledge of carbon footprint analysis, energy systems, buildings, and real estate.
