Positions: Summer Intern—Mechanical Design, data collection and product testing
Location: Mountain View, CA
Innovation Area: Energy Efficiency
Position Type: TomKat Center-supported
Compensation: $8,500
Internship Term: 8 weeks
SkyCool was the first in the world to develop a material that cools passively (i.e. no energy input) that can keep any surface 10–15°F below the ambient air temperature, just by being outside and under the sky. SkyCool’s film can be easily manufactured and scaled up to billions of square feet per year. The film is being applied to roofs to provide passive cooling, and eliminate the need to install air conditioning equipment, and on hydronic panels to reject heat out of the atmosphere.
Responsibilities
- Design next generation of cooling panels and layout on roof
- Develop tools to estimate pressure drop through panels
- Review data from projects and put together case studies
- Build out test methods to evaluate film and panel performance
- Build platform to test the performance of different passive cooling films
Who Should Apply
- Engineering students who are enthusiastic about reducing carbon footprint of commercial buildings
- People with an ability to work on their own / independently
Required Expertise
- Familiarity with mechanical design—Solidworks
