RockFix: Seeking TomKat Interns to Join Us on the Forefront of CO2 Removal!

RockFix is an early-stage, Breakthrough Energy-backed startup developing the technology to sequester gigatons of carbon dioxide permanently in rocks through accelerated rock weathering of mine waste.

We value trust, mutual inspiration, bias for action, and hard work. Our employees’ growth is of the highest importance to RockFix. We are looking for both technical and business/policy interns who we will mentor for the scope of work described below.

Join us in moving the critical mineral industry’s decarbonization ambitions forward.

Chemistry or Chemical Engineering Intern

We are looking for a promising chemist or chemical engineer with a passion for reducing the atmosphere’s carbon dioxide sustainability to learn in a fast-paced startup lab environment. The intern will have a front-row seat in learning about research and business development in the growing CleanTech industry. They will work closely with RockFix’s founders to design and carry out lab-scale experiments to advance our experimentation milestones.

The student will learn to:

  • Design a characterization standard operating procedure (SOP) to produce a carbonate mineralization product.
  • Design new SOPs and bring new lab instruments online
  • Identify key scale-up factors in a rock treatment & CO2 sequestration process.
  • Incorporate the experimental results into a techno-economic analysis model.
  • Gain insight into running an early-stage ClimateTech startup, backed by Breakthrough Energy, NYSERDA, and Stanford grant funders.
  • Gain mentorship from our team of 6 graduate alumni from Stanford and Harvard Universities.

Geochemistry or Geology Intern

We are looking for a promising geochemist with a passion for sustainability in the accelerated rock weathering space in a fast-paced startup lab and fieldwork environment. The intern will design experiments in the office to test real-world rock samples. As permitted, fieldwork will expose the intern to the mining industry and operating mines. They will work closely with RockFix’s founders to design and carry out lab-scale experiments.

The student will learn to:

  • Design the characterization standard operating procedure (SOP) for incoming rock samples from mining operations, identifying critical factors for further analysis.
  • Design and run lab experiments to chemically treat rock samples to unlock more CO2 sequestration potential.
  • Incorporate the experimental results into a techno-economic analysis model.
  • Participate in customer meetings with mining partners.
  • Gain insight into running an early-stage ClimateTech startup, backed by Breakthrough Energy, NYSERDA, and Stanford grant funders.
  • Gain mentorship from our team of 6 graduate alumni from Stanford and Harvard Universities.

Business Strategy and Policy Intern

We are looking for a promising business strategy and policy intern with a passion for reducing the atmosphere’s carbon dioxide sustainability to learn in a fast-paced startup lab environment. The intern will have a front-row seat in learning about research and business development in the growing CleanTech industry. They will work closely with RockFix’s founders to research and draft the company’s first mineralization-based carbon credit methodology and alliance for mineralization efforts in the carbon removal space.

The student will learn to:

  • Research and present an overview of carbon removal and carbon credit generation methodologies.
  • Investigate the carbon removal and storage portions of the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act, and identify opportunities for incorporating mineralization technologies.
  • Research and design how coalitions for carbon removal are formed, using direct air capture alliances as an example, and propose how a carbon storage equivalent can be developed.
  • Gain insight into running an early-stage ClimateTech startup, backed by Breakthrough Energy, NYSERDA, and Stanford grant funders.
  • Gain mentorship from our team of 6 graduate alumni from Stanford and Harvard Universities.
