PHNX Materials is a leader in green cement. We transform landfilled coal ash into a supplementary cementitious material and extract critical metals like aluminum, rare-earth elements and titanium. Founded by Stanford alums, we are committed to reducing CO2 emissions from heavy industries.

We are seeking a Stanford student with experience in material characterization. This role involves testing and characterization of different samples, analyzing the results, and suggesting improvements to experimental design.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing samples to undergo characterization
  • Utilize analytical techniques like ICP-MS, ICP-OES, XRD, and XRF for material characterization and testing
  • Analyzing results to inform success and outcomes of experiments
  • Suggest improvements to experimental design and future experiments
  • Ensure environmental and safety compliance during sample preparation and testing

Required expertise

  • Prior experience working in lab with physical samples

Preferred skills/majors

  • Prior experience working with rock / mineral samples
  • Ideally, experience in XRD, ICP-OES, XRF
  • Major in chemistry, geology, geochemistry or similar
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
