Water is the “so what” of climate change. Climate-driven water constraints are wiping out billions in US farmland value. After a century of unlimited access, farmland owners must now proactively manage their water like a financial asset. Mizu's AI-powered platform helps agricultural businesses analyze, budget, account, and credit water, turning water management from a threat into an opportunity. Given agriculture takes up 70% of human freshwater use, we are tackling the critical juncture between water and food security.

Two Stanford MS Climate/MBAs founded Mizu: Tomo was an agroforestry startup CFO managing 40% of Kenya’s forestation, while Ryo was the youngest Chief Corn Trader at Japan’s largest trading house, importing 20% of Japan’s corn. The team has been supported by StartX, TomKat Innovation Grant, Stanford Climate Ventures, Emergence Accelerators, and Knight-Hennessy Scholars.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with our C-Suite and engineering team to develop front-end or data science solutions for Mizu’s platform.
  • Build and improve web or mobile applications using React, TypeScript, Tailwind, and Next.js (if front-end focused).
  • Conduct data analysis, develop ML models, and help architect data pipelines (if data science focused).
  • Gather user feedback and test prototypes on-site with growers, contributing to real-world sustainability and behavior change solutions.
  • Participate in creative problem-solving sessions to refine product design, improve user experience, and shape Mizu’s technology stack.

Who Should Apply

  • Problem solvers eager to tackle climate, agriculture, and water management challenges through technology.
  • Individuals comfortable balancing hands-on fieldwork with technical development, who enjoy iterating quickly and testing ideas in real-world settings.
  • Adaptable, curiosity-driven individuals looking for an opportunity to learn, innovate, and make a direct impact on sustainability outcomes.
  • High empathy, relatable persons who can see the big societal change while engaging in conversations with on-the-ground stakeholders in their language. Sometimes, our customers don’t believe in climate change. Can you have fun, civil conversations with them?
