400C Energy is a geothermal development and technology company founded in 2024 to address a critical gap in the clean energy transition. 400C Energy deploys proprietary AI algorithms for exploration and repurposed oil and gas technologies for enhanced geothermal system (EGS) development. Using our proprietary superhot-capable stimulation technologies, 400C Energy is uniquely positioned to develop EGS in subsurface resources under very hot (>300° C) and superhot (>374° C) conditions. Drawing from deep technical expertise in energy systems engineering, subsurface stimulation, and geothermal modeling, 400C Energy is committed to commercializing EGS as a major source of clean firm power for the U.S. grid. The company's long-term vision is to deploy gigawatts of firm geothermal power.

Responsibilities

The intern will work on a project focused on global geothermal resource assessment using public data. Responsibilities include:

  • Collecting, cleaning, and organizing global geospatial datasets relevant to geothermal and EGS development
  • Managing and processing raster and vector datasets in QGIS
  • Conducting statistical and exploratory data analysis using Python
  • Developing derived geospatial layers such as temperature-at-depth proxies and geothermal favorability indicators
  • Documenting data sources, methods, and assumptions clearly
  • Preparing figures, maps, and tables, and writing a structured final report summarizing methods and results

Who Should Apply

Students 1) interested in energy, sustainability, geoscience, or data analysis, 2) seeking a hands-on, project-based research experience, and 3) comfortable learning new tools and working independently in a remote setting

Required Expertise

  • Basic experience with GIS concepts or tools (QGIS, ArcGIS, or similar)
  • Familiarity with spreadsheets and data management
  • Python programming experience
  • Ability to read technical material and document work clearly

Preferred Skills/Majors

  • Coursework in Earth systems, geoscience, civil or environmental engineering, energy systems, data science, or related fields
  • Experience with Python libraries for data analysis or geospatial processing
  • Exposure to statistics, spatial analysis, or machine learning concepts
  • Interest in geothermal energy or climate and energy infrastructure
