Internship Term: 8-12 weeks (11-12 preferred)
We are a close-knit team working to improve the efficiency of the $700 billion trucking industry. We believe in rapid prototyping, constant interactions with our customers, and a principle of ‘go to the pain’ to resolve any issues during development. We are looking for passionate, hands-on engineers who want to design and build something great. Our first product, TruckWings, deploys out from the cab at highway speeds directing the air around the tractor-trailer junction, eliminating the drag caused by this gap. We save our customers thousands of dollars per year per truck, and we are driven by the promise that our device has the potential to reduce emissions by more than the entire current U.S. solar market. To date, we have reduced emissions and saved fuel on over 45 million miles driven.
Working alongside the TruckWings Product Manager, solve novel product, engineering, and operations problems every day, including:
- Identifying customer needs and building product requirement documents;
- Translating product requirements into validation test plans;
- Interfacing with engineers to prototype design concepts;
- Performing trade-off analyses to drive product decisions;
- Supporting product rollouts from logistics all the way to field testing;
- Analysis of fuel saving performance leveraging IoT data and business intelligence platforms;
- Constant coordination between engineering, sales, operations, and supply chain.
Who Should Apply
We are looking to expand our TruckWings team with someone who shares our love of end-to-end product development and wants to make a sustainable difference. We are primarily interested in mechanically inclined, data-driven decision makers who are willing to collaborate across all TruckWings stakeholders. You will help design a resilient product that delivers on its mission, install and validate prototypes in the field, and incorporate feedback from our customers.
Past internship experience in aerodynamics, transportation, and prototyping is a plus, but not required.
Pursuing mechanical/aerospace engineering or related degree (product design etc. also considered). Preference will be given to students who demonstrate strong design and communication skills, particularly through past experience on student design teams.
