Redwood Materials is a sustainable materials company that was founded in 2017 to develop and deploy new technologies for dramatically increasing the scope and scale of recycled and sustainable materials in global supply chains.

Summer Chemical Engineering Intern

Redwood Materials is seeking an entrepreneurial Summer Chemical Engineering Intern to support our research and development, pilot projects, and commercial scale production operations.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include: (i) supporting and leading design and modelling of chemical engineering aspects of new processes, including the creation of detailed process flow documentation; (ii) assisting with setup, testing, and debugging of new processing operations; and (iii) conducting sample testing, pilot-scale research projects, and experiments for new processes.

Desired Qualifications

  • Pursuing a B.S. or advanced degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, materials science, or another discipline with significant relevant coursework
  • Prior internship or work experience with a leading technology company in a chemical or process engineering role, preferably with new process development
  • Able to operate independently conducting experiments in a wet chemistry lab
  • Experience with factory modeling concepts such as material flows, yields, and recovery rates 
  • Academic or professional background in inorganic chemistry and precious metals refining
  • Working knowledge of major chemical and process analysis software packages
  • Self-motivated, hands-on mindset, with a willingness to contribute at all levels
  • A passion for sustainability and making the world a better place!

Summer Mechanical Engineering Intern

Redwood Materials is seeking an entrepreneurial Summer Mechanical Engineering Intern to support our pilot and commercial scale production operations.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include: (i) leading and supporting technical design and specification of new mechanical processing equipment and manufacturing facilities; (ii) conducting high-level technical troubleshooting of equipment and electromechanical systems; and (iii) developing prototypes, research projects, and experiments for new processes.

Desired Qualifications

  • Pursuing a B.S. or advanced degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related discipline
  • Prior engineering internship experience with a leading technology or manufacturing company
  • Hands-on experience building products or projects in the workshop or lab, and living with your own designs in a functional environment
  • Coursework and/or experience with gas combustion and chemical processes preferred
  • Working knowledge of major mechanical design software packages
  • Coursework and/or experience with automation and programmable control systems
  • Highly self-motivated, entrepreneurial mindset
  • Willingness to contribute at all levels of the organization
  • A passion for sustainability and making the world a better place!

Summer Metallurgist Intern

Redwood Materials is seeking an entrepreneurial Summer Metallurgist Intern to support our research and development, pilot projects, and commercial scale production operations.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include: (i) leading and supporting research and development and pilot project work in our in-house metallurgical lab; (ii) leading and supporting design and modelling of new metallurgical and chemical processes, including the creation of detailed process flow documentation; and (iii) leading and supporting setup, testing, and commissioning of new metallurgical processing operations.

Desired Qualifications

  • Pursuing a B.S. or advanced degree in metallurgy, inorganic chemistry, or a related discipline
  • Prior metallurgy internship experience with a leading technology or manufacturing company
  • Coursework and/or experience in extractive metallurgy, especially non-ferrous metals
  • Project or research work related to developing new chemical or metallurgical processes
  • Exposure to factory modeling concepts such as material flows, yields, and recovery rates 
  • Working knowledge of major metallurgical and process analysis software packages
  • Self-motivated, hands-on mindset, with a willingness to contribute at all levels
  • A passion for sustainability and making the world a better place!
