At HighTide, we believe that individuals and communities have the right to thrive despite the overwhelming challenges posed by climate change, specifically sea level rise and increasingly severe storm surges. We’re on a mission to accelerate sea level rise adaptation and flood risk reduction. We empower resilient living through the HighTide Platform, which helps individuals and communities make decisions that drive adaptation and lower flood risk. We work with a range of stakeholders, including governments, community-based organizations, property owners, and engineers.
In May of 2021, HighTide became an operating company at Echelon, a constellation of resources to build companies in a world shaped by data and climate. We embrace nonzero-sum thinking to lift up those around us.
Interns have the option of working from Echelon headquarters in Evanston, WY, in Stuart, FL, to work directly with out CEO and developer, or remotely.
We are interested in recruiting an intern who can take our academic code for quantifying the socioeconomic impacts of flooding, rewrite it to commercial standards, and crunch the numbers to estimate how many people will be displaced by flooding over the coming years. The project will lead to the release of a publicly available dataset for the benefit of countless communities.
The following qualities are essential:
- Excellent communication skills
- A passion for helping disadvantaged communities
- A genuine interest in sea level rise and flooding as a problem
- Strong Python skills (geopandas, pandas, numpy, GDAL, etc.)
- GIS (QGIS)
If you resonate with this posting but don’t meet the above qualifications, don’t hesitate to get in touch to see if new opportunities have opened up in our team. We’re growing quickly!
